Life in Armenia

Who is Life In Armenia’s “ideal” intern?

Their ideal intern is a journalist who loves connecting the dots to make everyday topics fascinating. You’re the type of person who will dive with me into Yerevan's National Museum or the Matenadaran for hours just to find a 50-word hook for an article about modern business centers in Armenia. They’re looking for someone interested in tech, culture, sports, or lifestyle (anything except politics). You should be willing to go the extra mile to introduce the country from a perspective the world hasn't seen yet. They want someone who uncovers what’s beneath the surface rather than just reporting the obvious.

What kind of work and experience should they expect?

The top priority is learning how to "connect the dots." You’ll master the art of writing hooks that keep readers hooked until the very last word, even on casual topics. You will learn how to dig for the deep background of any story, drawing from history and the untold stories of everyday people. Life in Armenia is launching a “Life in Armenia” podcast this summer! This is a great opportunity for summer interns to get involved as hosts for upcoming episodes.

What makes their newsroom exceptional and unique?

They shifted the Overton window regarding digital nomadism and remote work in Armenia, moving it from "unthinkable" to "popular," and we’re still pushing until it becomes "policy." They adopt a hope-based communication strategy in everything they publish. They look for the good things about a country that everyone else misses because "good news doesn't sell." They take those stories and tell them in a way that makes readers fall in love.
