ARMENIA

Armenia is a Christian and democratic country in the South Caucasus that is emerging from a challenging post-Soviet transition with a Western-leaning democratic government, a vibrant civil society, and a free media.

While it’s thriving economically and socially, Armenia is also grappling with the results of war and aggression from neighbors - mainly from the dictatorship Azerbaijan in the east and authoritarian Turkey from the west. Armenia’s security challenges are directly tied to the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, a self-governing Armenian-populated enclave that Azerbaijan ethnically cleansed in 2023.

Armenia is a nascent democracy situated in a sea of tyranny. It offers the West a valuable democratic partner in an unpredictable region. Despite years of war and economic blockade, the country continues to build its economy through innovative sectors, and its active civil society and media have fostered an increasingly democratic governance.

The country’s economy, one of the fastest-growing in Eurasia, is fueled by strong agriculture, industrial, and construction sectors. Armenia invests heavily in IT in order to bypass physical borders.
